Australian Terrier Puppies

Australian Terrier Puppies are but the cutest creatures on earth, and they are known to be very quick learners. They enjoy active interaction and love to communicate with many people and other dogs. However, they can be jealous about their owners, and may chase non-canine pets as if they were prey. Australian Terriers were bred for hunting small game, so they are very intelligent and have good senses.

The breed was recognized by the AKC in 1960. The dog descended from the old Scotch Terrier, the ancestor of the modern Scottish Terrier, which was probably brought to Australia in the 19th century. It is also likely to have been influenced by the Cairne, the Dandie Dinmont, the Yorkshire, the Manchester, and the Irish Terrier, but there is actually no exact telling. Australian Terrier Puppies do show some resemblance to each of the above-mentioned dogs.

Australian Terriers do okay indoors, but they cannot stay without a job to do. These dogs enjoy games and exercise, and they must spend several hours each day working. They appreciate daily walks, and love to play ball. This makes them superb companions for well-behaved children. Australian Terriers are not as wary of strangers as they are often thought to be. They do not seem to heartily greet newcomers either, but they usually take to new people after a while. Australian Terrier Puppies must be introduced to different people, so that they get used to situational changes by adulthood.

The Australian Terrier is a small and short-legged dog, standing 9-11 inches high at the shoulder. Despite their compact size, they are robust and enduring. They can work on thickety terrains, and are very adept at catching small animals. Their large erectile ears ensure good hearing, and their harsh and water-resistant coat prevents soaking. The coat is longer on the chest and around the neck. Australian Terriers come in blue and tan, red and sandy – the colors accepted by the standard. If you want to have a purebred Australian Terrier Puppy, buy only from experienced and conscientious breeders.

Australian Terriers are healthy and hardy dogs, and they rarely suffer from genetic illnesses. Some lines are susceptible to diabetes, thyroid malfunction, patella luxation and cancer. Hip dysplasia occurrence is low. If you think you have made up your mind about the breeder to purchase from, make sure that all his or her Australian Terrier Puppies, as well as adult dogs, have been screened for genetic disorders.
