Australian Terriers belong to the working terrier group. They are small, medium-boned, and sturdy. The Australian Terrier is sometimes called Aussie. It was the first Australian dog breed to be recognized in Australia. This breed perfectly suits the Australian climatic conditions.
The Australian Terrier is long in proportion to height. Ears are pricked. The tail is docked. The coat color can be tan and blue, solid red or solid sandy. The outer coat is straight and harsh. The undercoat is short and soft.
The length of the muzzle of the Australian Terrier is equal to the length of the skull. Small eyes must be dark brown or black. Light-colored or protruding eyes are considered a fault in Australian Terriers. Ears are erect and pointed. The nose is black. The neck is long and strong.

Australian Terriers - Temperament
Australian Terriers are referred to as one of the quietest of terriers. And, these dogs are brave, adventurous and fun loving. The breed is highly versatile and has a desire to please. As a rule, the Australian Terrier gets along well with other house pets. It is alert, spirited and rather self-confident. It possesses the natural aggressiveness of a hunter. Australian Terriers are inquisitive and tend to think that they are bigger and more imposing dogs than they really are.
